An alleged gang member wanted by Metro Police since March was arrested this morning in Las Cruces, N.M., the U.S. Marshals office said.

The U.S. Marshals Nevada Fugitive Investigative Strike Team (FIST) developed information this month that 25-year-old Dwayne Romero, wanted for murder with the intent to promote or assist a criminal gang, was in New Mexico.

Romero and three other men are accused of beating Armando Castro to death during a violent gang initiation ritual known as being "jumped in." The initiation involved Castro being punched, kicked and stomped in the face and head for 13 seconds, police said.

The other three men are in custody facing the same charges.

U.S. Marshals in Las Cruces found Romero at the home of a family member. When arrested, Romero was hiding in a back bedroom of the house, police said.

Romero was taken to the Dona Ana County Detention Center in Las Cruces where he is awaiting extradition to Las Vegas, police said.
