Former Garrett Junior High School teacher Charles Richard Rogers will face a jury March 15 on 76 counts of sexual assault of a minor, lewdness with a child, use of a child in pornography and possession of child pornography.

The trial date was set this morning in the courtroom of District Judge Michael Villani in the case of the former science teacher, soccer coach and foster father who is accused of using his positions to gain access to children.

Rogers, 46, of Boulder City remains in the Clark County Detention Center on $1.3 million bail. He was arrested March 26 after police received a computer storage device containing child pornography that allegedly came from his house.

A search of his home and classroom turned up videotapes and computer media containing images of Rogers and children involved in lewd and sexual acts, an indictment alleges.

The indictment identifies seven different victims and notes that many other children in the images could not be identified.

The indictment included two counts of sexual assault of a minor, four counts of use of a minor in pornography, 17 counts of lewdness with a child under 14, 50 counts of possession of child pornography, one count of open and gross lewdness, one count of attempted lewdness with a minor under 14 and one count of child abuse and neglect.

Rogers has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Stacy Kollins and defense attorney Bill Terry said they expected the trial, scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. March 15, to take up to seven days.

Kollins said she would expect some of the victims to testify, as well as some of the video images to be shown.

“There’s a lot of witnesses, a lot of different evidence,” Kollins said.
