CARSON CITY -- The Legislative Commission has named two Northern Nevadans to temporarily sit on the state Ethics Commission to hear the case of Bob Loux, former director of the Nuclear Projects office.
The commission chose former Assemblyman Bob Weise of Washoe County and Don Klasic, former chief counsel for the university system, to replace former Assemblyman John Marvel and attorney Paul Lamboley, who had conflicts.
Loux is accused of improperly raising his own salary and that of his staff. He has since resigned. And the ethics commission will hear an offer Thursday by Loux to settle the case by repaying the state $29,000 to settle the case.
Gov. Jim Gibbons says Loux should repay the state $64,000 and that a criminal complaint should be filed against him.
Figures in the state budget show Loux was authorized a salary of $110,851 last fiscal year and he earned $145,718. This fiscal year he was earning $151,542 against an authorized salary of $115,285 when the dispute was discovered.
