CARSON CITY – Gov. Jim Gibbons has named former Sparks Mayor Bruce Breslow as executive director of the Nevada Agency for Nuclear Projects.
Breslow, 52, will succeed Bob Loux, who resigned after being accused of illegally raising his salary and that of his staff. He has remained in the job until a successor was chosen.
Gibbons followed the law in naming Breslow from three nominees provided by the Nevada Commission on Nuclear Projects. The other two were former state Consumer Advocate Tim Hay and Reno lawyer Keith Tierney.
The governor butted heads with the state Tourism Commission this month when he selected a Reno man to head that agency without waiting for the three nominees from the commission. He has indicated he will withdraw the name of Kirk Montero.
Breslow, who will earn $115,000 a year, said “There’s a new director but not a new policy.” He said he wants to “get up to speed as fast as possible.”
The state has filed 229 objections to locating a high level nuclear dump at Yucca Mountain. He said he would immerse himself in those documents filed with the federal government and work with the lawyers and experts who are fighting Yucca Mountain.
Breslow served eight years as mayor of Sparks and was chairman of the state’s Employee Management Committee.

Breslow first task is to build a "working relationship" with the AG Masto office.
That will shield him from any investigations by the AG because they have "high standards" that prevents them from investigating any government offical holder where the AG office has a working relationship. One would think that elimintes a ton of people that they can investigate in the government.
Ooopps... I forgot....it will not work in Breslow case because he is a Republican. .......dang it.
Accident?? Bruce Breslow turned Sparks from the withering town it was into a thriving city and community that has spawned countless new developments. Maybe if you could see out of your Fallon hole you would realize how much of a blessing Mayor Breslow was for Sparks as well as Reno.
