State jobless center extends Saturday hours again

The state's unemployment center is once again extending its Saturday hours, after the center received 1,000 phone calls Jan. 31. Until further notice, people filing unemployment claims can call from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

Regular phone hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

The state started accepting claims calls last Saturday until noon, in response to high demand. Nevada's unemployment rate jumped an unprecedented percentage point to 9.1 percent in December from the previous month.

The state also issued the following tips for callers:

• File via the Web 24 hours a day at www.expressclaim.org

• Avoid Mondays, which is the busiest day of the week for telephone claims

• Be sure to have all employment information when calling, including two most recent employers € Refrain from using a cell phone, as the call could get dropped.

Also, if the line is busy, try again. The claim center's phone number is 486-0350.
