The state's unemployment center will start accepting unemployment claims by phone on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon beginning Jan. 31 until further notice.
This is an expansion of the center's regular hours in response to the high level of layoffs.
Nevada's unemployment rate jumped an unprecedented 1 percentage point in December from the preceding month.
Claims can be filed by calling 486-0350 or by visiting www.expressclaim.org.
