A man and a woman have been arrested in a Thursday shooting east of the Las Vegas Strip near Twain Avenue and Paradise Road, Metro Police said.

Jose Lopez, 21, and Orleyvis Exposito, 20, both of Las Vegas, were taken into custody shortly after the 2 p.m. shooting in the 400 block of McKellar Circle, police said.

Lopez was armed with a small-caliber handgun and was with Exposito when they entered an upstairs apartment, police said. Lopez confronted a man inside the apartment and Exposito confronted a woman in an apparent robbery attempt, police said.

A struggle between the robbery suspects and their victims ended when the male apartment resident was shot in the chest with a handgun, police said. He was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Both Lopez and Exposito have been booked into the Clark County Detention Center, each charged with one count of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, attempted robbery with a deadly weapon, burglary with the use of a weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Before Thursday, neither Lopez nor Exposito had a criminal history in Las Vegas.
