11-year-old boy boating with parents drowns at Lake Mead

UPDATED STORY: Autopsy: Boy overcome by carbon monoxide at Lake Mead

An 11-year-old boy who had been on a boat with his parents drowned Thursday at Lake Mead, officials said today.

National Park Service rangers got a 911 call referred from Clark County authorities about 8:45 p.m. Thursday, said Andrew Munoz, spokesman for the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

A Metro Police helicopter helped to find the boat in Echo Bay and the boy was taken to the Echo Bay dock, where a Mercy Air flight took him to University Medical Center about 11 p.m., Munoz said. The boy died later at the hospital.

The identity of the boy has not been released as park service rangers continue the investigation, Munoz said.
