Collision

A car and a van collided about 9:30 a.m. Monday, critically injuring the van's driver and closing northbound lanes of Nellis Boulevard for hours, Metro Police said.

The 1989 Chevrolet van, driven by 72-year-old Cathy Franklin of Las Vegas, was southbound on Nellis north of Stewart Avenue and turning left across the northbound traffic lanes to turn into a parking lot, police said.

A Ford Focus, driven by 59-year-old Bessie Murphy of Henderson, was heading north on Nellis in the right lane, police said.

The Chevy van turned in front of the Focus and the left front of the Focus hit the right front of the van, police said.

Both drivers were taken to University Medical Center's trauma unit, police said. Franklin was listed in critical condition while Murphy had minor injuries, police said.
