Suspicious midnight blast investigated in NLV

Explosion investigation

People living near Grand Teton Drive and Aliante Parkway in North Las Vegas heard a loud bang early this morning.

When North Las Vegas Police officers arrived after receiving at least three calls about 12:08 a.m., they didn't find anything, said police spokesman Sgt. Tim Bedwell.

However, as workers with Hyrock Construction began arriving about 6:10 a.m., they discovered that an explosion had damaged a water tanker truck, Bedwell said.

The blast that occurred did enough damage to cause the water tanker to leak, Bedwell said. The explosion left a football-sized hole in the side of the truck.

"We believe it was intentional," Bedwell said of the explosion. A device was probably placed and set off by men seen leaving the area at the time of the original call, Bedwell said.

There is no known motive for the crime and there have been no arrests.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Nevada Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
