LAW ENFORCEMENT:

Metro identifies officer involved in Saturday crash

Officer struck by car

Metro Police have identified the officer involved in an accident Saturday morning in the southwest valley as William Marsh.

Marsh, 39, was riding his motorcycle east on Warm Springs near Jones Boulevard at about 6:30 a.m. when it collided with a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser. The driver, Amber Byrd, 32, of Las Vegas, was turning left to go south on Folded Mountains Way, according to an accident report released by Metro Police.

Marsh was thrown about 100 feet after his motorcycle hit the PT Cruiser, Metro spokesman Ramon Denby said. Both drivers were taken to UMC's trauma unit for treatment of moderate injuries.

Byrd showed signs of being impaired and was arrested and taken to the Clark County Detention Center, Denby said.

The officer did not have lights or sirens on at the time of the crash, Denby said, but did have the right-of-way.

Marsh has been with Metro since January 1999 and is currently assigned to the department's traffic bureau.
