The husband of District Judge Elizabeth Halverson avoided a trial by pleaded guilty today to one count of battery with a deadly weapon with substantial bodily harm after attacking his wife with a frying pan.
Edward Halverson, 49, took an Alford plea. Under that plea, prosecutors agreed to drop a charge of attempted murder. His plea means he doesn't admit to being guilty, but he believes there is enough evidence to convict him at a trial.
Under the plea, Edward Halverson could be sentenced to three to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced on Dec. 12.
Judge Halverson called Metro Police to their home near Tropicana Avenue and U.S. 95 on Sept. 4 and reported that her husband had attacked her with a frying pan.
The judge spent two weeks in a local hospital with severe injuries.
