Nevada Way from Colorado to U.S. 93 will be off limits to traffic Oct. 18, along with part of Colorado Street on Oct. 15 to 18 for a national triathlon championship that will draw 1,500 athletes to Boulder City.

On Oct. 18, athletes will swim in Lake Mead, bike up U.S. 93 through town, and then run around Boulder City to finish in front of Wilbur Square, Aubrion Sterrett, assistant race director for the Pumpkinman triathlon, said.

The races start at 7 a.m. and will end around 3 p.m.

Nevada Way is expected to reopen at 3 p.m. Oct. 18, police Sgt. Lisa Byrd said.

Wilbur Square will be the hub of most activity Oct 18, and an "Endurance Village Expo" will be set up in Government Park Oct. 15-18, causing the closure of Colorado Street.

Sterrett expects at least 4,000 people to descend on Boulder City for the USA Triathlon Club-sponsored event.

The Boulder City Police Department will facilitate traffic around the athletes and direct vehicles around the closed intersections. Police will manage traffic at the four-way intersections at Avenue G, Utah Street and Buchanan Boulevard.
