A 17-year-old North Las Vegas teenager who died at a local hospital after a shooting late Saturday has been identified as Eric Duane Knox, Jr., the Clark County coroner's office said.

The cause of Knox's death was a gunshot wound to the torso, the coroner said.

North Las Vegas police responded at 8:30 p.m. Saturday to a report of a shooting at the Villas at Cheyenne apartments, 3260 Fountain Falls Way. The apartment complex is just north of Cheyenne Avenue and the North Las Vegas Airport.

Officers arrived to find the teenager suffering from a gunshot wound, police said. He was taken to University Medical Center's trauma unit, where he later died during emergency treatment.

Knox attended Cheyenne High School and went by the nickname E.J., police said.

Police have no information on a possible suspect at this time. Detectives are seeking information from anyone who knew Knox from school or the neighborhood, which might be helpful in this case.

Anyone with information about the shooting is being asked to call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555. Cash rewards up to $2,000 are offered to anonymous persons who call Crime Stoppers with information that leads to the arrest or indictment of a person responsible for a felony offense.
