McCarran officials: Plenty of holiday parking

Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008 | 3:46 p.m.

Between the opening of the new Economy Lot and an expected decrease in air travel due to the struggling economy, McCarran International Airport officials foresee no shortage of parking this holiday season.

"The last couple of years we've said you should consider getting a ride. We're not saying that this year. We've got plenty of space for the demand we're expecting," said director of the Clark County Department of Aviation Randall H. Walker.

The total of available long term parking spots at McCarran is now 13,000, of which 5,050 are in the new Economy Lot off of Paradise Road.

The new lot may be accessed from southbound Paradise Road by turning right on Gus Guiffre Drive or from the Airport Connector Tunnel by following the overhead signs to Economy Parking toward Terminal 2 and Departures.

The cost to park in this lot is $8 a day and free shuttle service is provided from the lot to Terminal 1.

Walker said today he wanted to remind airport patrons that the former economy parking lot on Russell Road is now closed.

The lot closed in September due to construction on Terminal 3, which is expected to be complete in June 2012.

In addition to the Economy Lot, parking is also available at McCarran's remote lot on Gilespie Street for $5 a day, in the airport's public parking garage for $14 a day and through valet for $21 a day.

Walker urged travelers who plan to leave a vehicle overnight at the airport to make use of the airport parking hotline at 261-5122.

The hotline may be used to determine if any of the lots are full prior to arriving at the airport.
