Police identify man shot in traffic

The motorist who was fatally shot while stuck in traffic Tuesday morning in the central Las Vegas Valley has been identified as 48-year-old Michael Maurice McDaniels of Las Vegas.

Metro Police said McDaniels was shot by another motorist who also was stuck in traffic near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Owens Avenue at about 8:48 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities are still looking for the gunman.

According to a witness at the scene, police said, McDaniels was in his vehicle waiting to go west on Owens when a man who was also in traffic left a white Nissan and walked up to the vehicle, shooting McDaniels multiple times. Police said the gunman calmly walked back to his vehicle and left the scene, making a U-turn eastbound on Owens.

McDaniels was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The gunman’s vehicle was described as a white 2000 Chevrolet Malibu with a black bra on the front bearing Las Vegas commemorative Nevada license plate LV22G6.

Anyone with information is being asked to call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or the Metro Police Homicide Section at 828-3521.
