UPDATED STORY: Police identify man shot in traffic

A motorist stuck in traffic Tuesday morning in the central Las Vegas Valley exited his vehicle and fatally shot another driver also waiting in traffic, police said.

Metro Police are asking for the public’s help today in identifying the man after the shooting, which occurred at about 8:48 a.m. near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Owens Avenue.

Officers responded to a call that a man had been shot while in his vehicle. Police found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds sitting in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. He hasn’t been identified.

According to a witness on the scene, police said, the victim was in his vehicle waiting to go west on Owens when a man who was also in traffic left a white Nissan and walked up to the vehicle, then shot the victim multiple times. Police said the gunman calmly walked back to his vehicle and left the scene, making a U-turn eastbound on Owens.

The victim was transported to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The gunman’s vehicle was described as a white 2000 Chevrolet Malibu with a black bra on the front bearing Las Vegas commemorative Nevada license plate LV22G6.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is being asked to call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 or the Metro Police Homicide Section at 828-3521.
