Boulder City kicks off holiday season with weekend events

Santa might have to be in two places at once this weekend during holiday spectaculars across Boulder City.

The celebrations begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, when the city will flip on 1,500 lights adorning its 40-foot tall Christmas tree in Frank Crowe Park at Ash Street and Nevada Way.

The same night and continuing Saturday, St. Jude's Ranch for Children will hold its Night of Lights from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Ranch on U.S. 93 and St. Jude's Street.

Lights will cover every inch of the campus, which houses abused and neglected children, while a jazz band plays, hayrides circle and bidders make offers on silent auction items.

The annual fundraiser has free admission.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Santa will pose for pictures with children in the Bicentennial Park gazebo. Photos are free.

Then at 4:30 p.m., Santa will down Nevada Way during the 37th annual Santa's Electric Night Parade, which will be televised live on Cox cable channel 96.

Wayne Putz will dust off his Santa suit for his 33rd year in the parade after taking last year off because of health issues. Shirley Putz will again be Mrs. Claus.

After that parade, the annual Christmas Parade of Lights will begin at Lake Mead, the Christmas Parade of Lights.

At 6:30 p.m., more than 100 twinkling boats blaring Christmas carols will take off from Las Vegas Boat Harbor during the 32nd annual Lake Mead Boat Owners Association event.

Also on Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Santa will visit with children riding the sight-seeing train at the Nevada State Railroad Museum. It will also run Dec. 13 and 14.

Tickets are $2 to board the Santa Train, which takes off from 601 Yucca Street.
