Woman cited for hit and run, DUI after police chase

After fleeing a rollover accident on U.S. 93 near Railroad Pass, a woman driving a Dodge Neon led police on a chase into town on Nevada Highway on Sunday before crashing into a police car, according to Boulder City police.

Kara Lynn Cunningham, 19, of Henderson was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges including a felony driving under the influence and hit and run driving. Bail was set at $17,730, according to county online records.

About 8:30 p.m., police said, the Dodge Neon, driving about 90 mph on U.S. 93 at the U.S. 95 overpass, rear-ended a Suzuki, causing that vehicle to flip. The driver was transported to St. Rose Dominican Hospitals-Siena Campus with back injuries.

The Neon left the accident, heading into Boulder City at 50 mph, riding on the left front rim because of a blown tire. The car ran the stoplights at Veterans Memorial Drive and Buchanan Boulevard, tailed by two marked police cars flashing lights and sirens, Boulder City Police Sgt. John Glenn said.

The Neon slowed to about 35 mph at Nevada Way and Elm Street, and then came to a halt, blocked by Glenn's police car in front of it, he said.

Then, at 5 or 10 mph, the Neon ran into Glenn's car.

Glenn said officers had to forcibly remove the driver from the Neon after she refused to get out when they drew their weapons. She was incoherent and unsteady, Glenn said.
