Velocity, Inc., of Sebastian, Fla., the maker of the experimental plane that crashed in North Las Vegas Friday, issued this statement: "We are deeply saddened by the news of this accident and the resulting loss of lives."
The company also said there have not been any accidents attributable to the plane's design.
The company's Web site says Velocity aircraft are sold as kits and assembled by individuals at home-based workshops.
A private pilot's license is required to operate the aircraft and to carry passengers, the company said.
Velocity, Inc., said it has sold about 750 kits and about 500 planes are currently flying.
The Federal Aviation Administration labels as "experimental" all aircraft that are built outside of a certified factory, said FAA spokesman Ian Gregor.

False reporting/misleading headline.
Nowhere did he say the design was not at fault in this accident. All he said was there have not been any accidents attributable to the plane's design THUS FAR.
This aircraft design has been around for DECADES. No design problems have been attributed to the design.
The article says there was an evacuation dealing with the "jet fuel." This plane uses gasoline. Specifically Avgas which is 100 LL fuel. The LL stands for Low Lead.
