Teen who died in car-bicycle crash identified

The 16-year-old boy who died from injuries he suffered Tuesday after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle has been identified as Keanu Irving Lee Davila of North Las Vegas, the Clark County coroner's office said.

The cause of death is multiple blunt force trauma injuries, a coroner's spokeswoman said.

The victim was taken from Alexander Road and Coleman Street to University Medical Center where he died, North Las Vegas Police said.

Police investigators, using evidence at the scene and eyewitness accounts, said the teen was riding his bicycle close to the curb when the driver of a silver Honda Civic pulled to the right and hit him from behind about 12:23 p.m.

The teen landed onto the hood of the car, hitting his head on the windshield, police said. He was carried another 40 feet on the car's hood before falling into the street.

The driver agreed to a blood test, police said. The accident is still under investigation, but the driver could face a misdemeanor or felony charge once forensic tests are completed, police said.

The teen was not wearing a helmet, which might have helped him survive the crash, police said.
