Leak shut down within half hour:

Gas line rupture stops traffic briefly

Updated Monday, Aug. 18, 2008 | 1:52 p.m.

A leak from natural gas line broken by a construction crew near Bonneville Avenue just east of South Grand Central Parkway was shut off within half an hour, Las Vegas Fire Department spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

The lead occurred about 10:30 a.m., while the crew was digging into Bonneville to install a 12-inch water main and they hit a four-inch natural gas line, Szymanski saidd.

Firefighters arrived and closed Bonneville at Grand Central Parkway and Main Street. Grand Central was closed from Bonneville to F Street.

Southwest Gas crews arrived within half an hour and shut off the gas in the line, Szymanski said. The street was then reopened for traffic.

The construction crew had contacted "Call before you dig," and the lines were marked, but this particular line was not indicated, Szymanski said.

The construction crew was not at fault, he said.
