Letter: Don’t expect the U.N.’s help now
Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006 | 7:37 a.m.
I have to laugh aloud when I hear President Bush and Condi Rice insisting on U.N. assistance with Iran and North Korea.
Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, then-Secretary of State Colin Powell and the other neocons ignored the U.N. before deciding unilaterally to attack the Iraqi people. They virtually thumbed their noses at the U.N.
Now that Iran and North Korea have turned out to be the real threats, Bush has no military left to back up his empty threats. Instead, he keeps his head in the sand and has no plan for Iraq except to repeat, ad nauseam, the words complete victory, whatever that means.
In the meantime, Bush is responsible for the deaths of more than 2,211 troops and the wounding of more than 16,000 others. And that is no laughing matter.
