Letter: Local motorists must show more responsibility
Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004 | 9:13 a.m.
I relocated to Las Vegas recently from upstate New York. I fell in love with this area and I admire what our local elected officials are doing for this great city. I follow the news daily and I am grateful to Mayor Oscar Goodman for his dedication to the people he represents.
I read in your newspaper, however, that the death rate on the state's highways is increasing yearly. As a newcomer, I believe I can see why. I drive frequently on many streets in Las Vegas and am always surprised and upset to see so many drivers who are speeding and not using their turn signals and not paying attention to the speed-limit signs.
One reason for this driving pattern is the failure of our local traffic enforcers to be more visible. But the drivers themselves are the most responsible. Please, as residents of Las Vegas, let's obey the speed limits, use signal lights and respect other drivers.
By doing this, the life you save may be your own. Stop the speeding! Respect the roads!
