Letter: Bush creates uncertainty
Friday, Oct. 25, 2002 | 4:47 a.m.
My uneasy feeling over fellow Republican George W. Bush isn't just because I lost half of my life's savings under his administration, leaving my wife and I with only our Social Security checks as a source of monthly income.
He now has the nerve to try to privatize part of that. Anytime anyone wants to invest extra money in the stock market they are free to do so -- or go gamble in a Las Vegas casino.
But my unease goes beyond money matters. President Bush and his cohorts have an extraordinary ability for coming up with legislation, such as tax cuts for rich people, more central control for the president, and war on Iraq and ramming it through Congress with a blitzkrieg of propaganda and lobbying before the public and Congress understand what is going on.
Who is behind his propaganda and lobbying machine? Is it the military-industrial complex President Dwight Eisenhower warned about? Or maybe the oil and industrial barons? Do they think war will save the country from depression? What is this man's hidden agenda? He can't use Sept. 11 as his excuse for every action or inaction forever. Yes, I'm uneasy. I hope you are too when you go to the polls.
