Caps defenseman Sloan belts Langkow in 3rd NHL shift

Wranglers

In just his third NHL shift, former Wranglers defenseman Tyler Sloan showed he can hit like a powerful veteran Tuesday night.

Seven minutes into the game in Calgary, Sloan of the Washington Capitals leveled Daymond Langkow of the Flames with a clean bodycheck near the Caps' blueline.

Calgary’s Rene Borque immediately retaliated, jumping on Sloan and throwing blow after blow. Borque was hit with 19 minutes of penalties. Sloan, 27, didn’t punch back and was not penalized.

Soon after the game, the big hit had already made its way onto YouTube.

That started a nine-minute power play in which Washington did not score. Calgary won the game, 2-1.

“It was the first time I’ve ever had a nine-minute power play,” said Caps star Alexander Ovechkin, “and we had only one chance in those nine minutes … it can’t be like that.”
