Vegas Play of the Day: Oregon vs. BYU

Mike Moser

Don Ryan / AP

Oregon forward Mike Moser, right, dribbles against Arizona State guard Jahii Carson during the second half of an NCAA college basketball game in Eugene, Ore., Tuesday, March 4, 2014. Moser led Oregon with 22 points and 17 rebounds as they beat Arizona State 85-78.

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point..

Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

No. 7 seed Oregon minus-5.5 against No. 10 seed BYU: $770 to win $700

My last play on Oregon didn’t turn out so well but I feel good about this one going better. And it has as much to do with the opponent as the Ducks themselves.

Despite perceptions that they would need to sneak into the tournament field, BYU was gifted a No. 10 seed. This despite losing second-best player Kyle Collinsworth in the conference tournament.

The Ducks won a nonconference meeting between these teams on Dec. 21 by four in a shootout. If Oregon is dialed in from the start I see this game being a 12- or 13-point victory. And even if the Ducks struggle, they’re good enough to stay close to BYU and eventually run away. I just don’t see the Cougars being able to hang in this one.

Standings: Bern (15-10, $10,740), Keefer (11-12, $8,897), Brewer (8-13-3, $6,450)
