51s fall in 16 innings

The Las Vegas 51s were defeated 2-1 Friday night in 16 innings at the Sacramento River Cats.

Matt Carson singled to open the 16th inning for Sacramento and scored on an Eric Patterson single to end the 4 hour, 37 minute game.

Las Vegas’ best chance to score was in the 10th inning when it loaded the bases with one out. However, Randy Ruiz, who leads the 51s in RBIs, hit into an inning-ending double play.

The 51s scored their lone run in the eighth when Angel Sanchez scored on a Buck Coats run-scoring single to even the game at one.

The Nos. 2 to 4 hitters in the Las Vegas lineup, Aaron Mathews, Ruiz and J.P. Arencibia, went a combined 0-for-20.

The second game of the four-game series is at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
