51s top Fresno in extra inings

Howie Clark and Randy Ruiz batted in runs for the Las Vegas 51s in the 11th inning Tuesday night to key an 8-6 victory against the host Fresno Grizzlies.

Las Vegas squandered a 6-0 second-inning lead, but still pulled out the victory to snap a four-game losing streak.

Aaron Mathews singled to start the 11th and scored the winning run on a single from Clark. Ruiz plated Clark with a double for an insurance run.

Dirk Hayhurst pitched two scoreless innings, including retiring Fresno in order in its half of the 11th, for the win.

Las Vegas erupted for six runs in the second inning, with a two-run double from Mathews and a two-run triple from Buck Coats keying the outburst. Mathews led Las Vegas with two runs, hits and RBIs.

Las Vegas starter Fabio Castro gave up two hits in seven scoreless innings. However, reliever Jonah Bayliss gave up six earned runs in one-third of an inning as Fresno rallied with six runs in the eighth to even the score.

The teams will play the third game of their four-game series at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday.
