Woman dead in early morning fire (UPDATED)

(Updated 11:30 a.m.) Clark County fire investigators and Metro Police homicide detectives have determined that an early morning fire in the southwest Las Vegas Valley was an accident.

The body of a woman was discovered in an upstairs bedroom. She was a smoker and still clutched a lighter in her hand, said Clark County Fire Department spokesman Scott Allison. The woman's age and identity are unknown at this time, Allison said.

Clark County firefighters received a call at 4:48 a.m. that smoke was pouring from a two-story stucco home near Fort Apache and the 215 Beltway, Allison said. Firefighters also discovered a dog that had died after the fire was doused at 5:04 a.m.

Fire investigators were joined by Metro Police homicide detectives at the 7258 Quarterhorse Lane home, Allison said. The Clark County Coroner's Office will determine the cause of the woman's death. There is no estimated property loss from the blaze, which was contained to the single bedroom, Allison said.
