Two Metro Police officers involved in a Sunday shooting east of UNLV have been identified.
The Metro officers are 43-year-old Michael Loeffler and 27-year-old Christopher Dennis, a police spokesman said today.
Loeffler has been with Metro Police since April 2006. Dennis has been with Metro since January 2007. They are on paid leave pending a department review.
A 37-year-old man was shot and killed by Metro officers after they said he lunged at them with a knife. The Clark County coroner's office identified the man as Daechull Chung. Chung died of multiple gunshot wounds at Sunrise Hospital emergency room where he was taken after the 3 a.m. Metro Police confrontation in the 1400 block of Living Desert Drive.
Police said neighbors saw Chung outside in his underwear and a T-shirt, asking for a woman named "Denise" before officers arrived.
Officers shot Chung after he refused to drop one or more knives, according to police reports.
