Man shot and killed by police is identified

A 37-year-old man shot and killed by Metro Police after officers say he lunged at them with a knife has been identified by the Clark County coroner's office as Daechull Chung.

Chung died of multiple gunshot wounds at Sunrise Hospital emergency room where he was taken after the 3 a.m. Sunday confrontation with Metro Police in a working class neighborhood east of UNLV.

Police said neighbors saw Chung outside in his underwear and a T-shirt, asking for a woman named "Denise" before officers arrived.

Officers shot Chung after he refused to drop one or more knives, according to police reports.

Two Metro Police officers are on paid leave pending a department review. Their identities are expected to be made public on Tuesday.
