Police seek victims of alleged scam artist

Henderson Police are seeking victims of an accused scam artist recently arrested for impersonating an attorney.

Robert Mulvihill, 51, was charged on Jan. 29 and accused of scamming a 75-year-old out of $15,000, detectives said.

In November the victim was put in contact with Mulvihill, who said he was an attorney named Robert Hill, regarding property for sale. While the victim decided not to invest in the property, he hired Mulvihill to help collect a delinquent account, giving Muvihill $7,500 as a retainer.

Mulvihill had an office and gave the victim a Nevada State Bar identification number indicating he was an attorney. The victim called Mulvihill several times to check on the debt collection. Mulvihill showed the victim a lawsuit against the debtor for not paying.

The victim then gave Mulvihill another $7,500 to work on another delinquent account. In reality, Mulvihill had done nothing to try to collect the delinquent accounts, police said.

In January the victim received a letter from another person, saying he had been scammed by a man impersonating an attorney, using the name Robert Hill and that his real name was Mulvihill.

The victim then contacted Henderson Police. Detectives found Mulvihill was in the Henderson jail on other charges. After an investigation, Mulvihill was charged with burglary, obtaining money under false pretenses and exploiting the elderly.

Detectives believe other victims may have been scammed by the suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Henderson Police Department at 267-4750. Anyone who wishes to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555 and may be eligible for a cash reward.
