A man shot and killed by a security guard at an apartment complex in eastern Las Vegas has been identified as 34-year-old Roberto Simmon of Las Vegas, the Clark County coroner's office said today.

Metro Police officers went to an apartment at 1060 Sierra Vista Ave. after a report that someone had been shot about 10:52 p.m. Thursday. Police discovered a dead man lying outside Apt. 4.

Metro's homicide detectives learned that a security officer working for a company contracted by the apartment complex had responded to the apartment after a complaint of loud music, police said. Witnesses said the security guard knocked on the door and when the man in the apartment answered, he attacked the security officer, police said.

During the struggle, the security officer fired one shot, striking and killing the subject, police said.

The investigation continues and no charges have been filed.
