(First posted at 11:42 a.m.) A 4-year-old Las Vegas boy who was found dead this morning in the family's SUV had been there for about 17 hours, Metro Police said this evening.

The boy, who was found about 8:25 a.m., was left in the vehicle on Sunday, following a family outing, police said. The boy's body was discovered by a sibling, police said.

The Las Vegas Fire Department responded with paramedics to the 4900 block of East Cleveland Avenue in east Las Vegas and then called Metro's abuse and neglect unit and Clark County's Child Protective Services, police said.

Four children who lived in the home were taken into protective custody pending further investigation, police said. No charges have yet been filed. The case is still ongoing and will be submitted to the district attorney's office for final review.

The Clark County coroner will determine the cause of death.
