A 27-year-old Las Vegas man died late Sunday after he lost control of his motorcycle and struck a tree earlier in the day, Metro Police said.
The victim, Chad Morales, was the 40th traffic death in Metro Police jurisdiction this year.
Morales was riding a 2005 Suzuki motorcycle southbound on Highland Drive in the left of two travel lanes, police said.
Witnesses told traffic officers that the motorcyclist was speeding and drifted to the right as he approached a left-hand curve. Morales drifted to the right, left the roadway going west and hit a tree, police said.
Morales was taken to University Medical Center, where he died.
Metro investigators say the crash remains under investigation, but it appears speed was the cause.
