Monte Carlo Fire
Fri, Jan 25, 2008 (12:17 p.m.)
The wispy column of smoke rising from the roof of the gleaming-white Monte Carlo hotel triggered an anxiety rush across Las Vegas that winter morning. As the smoke thickened, old-timers harked back to other hotel fires, including the one in 1980 that killed 87 people and injured 700 others at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino.

Locally owned and independent for more than 50 years.

Within two hours the bandwidth was maxing out on all local media web pages. More criminals are more organized than the public. Hundreds of businesses are without fire suppression systems because they don't work. The life of a system in Las Vegas is 10 years. The public needs a better plan. I see thousands of safety violations daily in businesses. This is a good example of why companies should not hire illegal immigrants to do work of any kind. The language barrier could be fatal when seconds count. The fire department and EMS workers did a good job only because they were lucky this time. There is no excuse for health and safety violations anywhere in the USA.... Dr Doomsday
