Point 1 is to understand that you're constantly running uphill when you gamble against the house. Eventually you will lose your money, which is normal. So, the key elements to survive that is to finance your "hobyy" or addiction from a job and limit your losses. Once you cross the line from security to danger zone, life can become a thin walk on the line. So all you must do is stay within your boundries and you'll be fine doing what you like to do.
