Why would folks residing in a city dependant on gambling vote for internet competition????
Because it would introduce people to gaming who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience it. If those people try it on the web and like it, maybe their next vacation will be in Las Vegas. You can buy just about anything online that you can get in a store, e.g. clothing. Does that stop you from going to the store? It's amazing how much of a positive impact online poker had on the live games before Washington decided to legislate morality.
Here's the reality. Prohibition of online gaming in the states simply pushes more people to go into an ACTUAL casino to play. Gamblers will always gamble. Better that the Government legalises (and therefore polices) this activity, and gets tax revenue etc from it, than not. Why? Government licensed supported / online casinos are some of the SAFEST places to play in the world.
Whether a gambler chooses to play online or in a land based casino is up to them. But a regulated and taxed environment will be safer for players in the long run, whilst helping the US economy. Re jobs etc, we're in a GLOBAL market. But I'm sure if they sign internet gambling legislation that they can insert conditions around workforce placements etc into that to protect the US jobs.
Just my thoughts as an internationally rated vip casino player. My blog is at www.howtobeatthecasinos.com if you want to read (clearly, optional). :-)
