The Nevada Legislature put the Washoe County Commission in the untenable position of deciding whether to raise taxes for the school district to spend on maintenance projects. So far, 80 percent of the public comment is from those opposed to the tax, but school officials tell commissioners children are being taught in potentially unsafe conditions.
