History shows Falcons can hurt Rebels both on ground and through air
UNLV FOOTBALL: While Air Force ran the ball well last year at UNLV, the pass game decided the outcome

Wherever Air Force's offense goes, it's reputation as a run-heavy machine follows. That was certainly the case last season, when the Falcons came into Sam Boyd Stadium and squeaked out a 29-28 victory over UNLV. But a look inside the numbers shows that it wasn't the run which really killed the Rebels in the long run.

Mondays with Mike: UNLV's bowl hopes face toughest remaining challenge at Air Force
Tuesday, November 10, 2009
The first time this season in which the UNLV football team went up against a true 3-4 defense, the outcome was unexpected. That was when the Rebels, then 2-1, fell on the road as favorites to Wyoming, 30-27, back on Sept. 26. UNLV never looked settled on offense, and it showed in the final numbers, as Mike Sanford's club turned the ball over four times.

Ron Kantowski: Imagine what would happen if UNLV were to win its last two scheduled games
Monday, November 9, 2009
As I sat in the Bono seats — the rickety bleachers at the summit of the stadium, which, with rare exception, get occupied only when U2 is in town and never, ever get occupied when the UNLV football team is in town — I had a thought that might be frightening to whatever devoted Rebel football fans remain.

UNLV FOOTBALL: UNLV's slim bowl hopes stay alive for another week thanks to steady offense, big-play defense
Sunday, November 8, 2009
Whether it was by noticing the smiles on their faces that displayed a sense of momentary relief or just by them flat-out saying it, Saturday night's win just felt a bit different than the previous three this season for the members of the UNLV football team. In soundly dispatching of Colorado State on Saturday night at Sam Boyd Stadium by a count of 35-16, the Rebels ended the Rams' hopes of bowl eligibility, and in turn kept theirs alive by improving to 4-6 with two games still to go.

That’s just how the ball rolls sometimes. UNLV right cornerback Quinton Pointer quoted his favorite saying when asked about how the Rebels have had so few interceptions, sacks and tackles for loss this season.

Mojave High grad disappointed with loss to UNLV
REBELS FOOTBALL: Greer leads Rams with seven catches for 77 yards, but leaves empty-handed
Sunday, November 8, 2009
As the fourth-quarter clock wound down on Saturday, Colorado State wide receiver Rashaun Greer knelt on the Rams sideline, just a few yards away from his family and friends. “I just sat there looking at the scoreboard,” Greer said. “I was praying for something good to happen. A big play, a turnover, something. It’s all I could do.” Neither came for the 2005 graduate of Mojave High School as the Rams lost their seventh straight game, a 35-16 defeat to the UNLV Rebels at Sam Boyd Stadium.

LIVE GAME BLOG: Consistent Clayton, big defensive plays earn Rebels second MWC win
Saturday, November 7, 2009
Omar Clayton was a consistent 10-of-17 for 147 yards and two total TDs, the UNLV defense came up with a big play here and there and the 4-6 Rebels can hold on for another week to their slim bowl hopes following a 35-16 victory over Colorado State on Saturday night at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Colorado State junior running back Leonard Mason has been the motor behind the Rams' offense in his first year in the program, with 606 yards and two touchdowns to his credit. CSU's success on Saturday night at Sam Boyd Stadium could depend on how productive he can be against a porous Rebels run defense.

UNLV FOOTBALL: Two 3-6 teams meet, both facing do-or-die situation heading into season's final quarter
Saturday, November 7, 2009
Three weeks into the 2009 season, a regular season meeting down the road between UNLV and Colorado State had all the makings of deciding who lands one of the Mountain West Conference's last bowl bids. That still could be the case, but it's just not as certain. Not by a long shot.

UNLV FOOTBALL: Senior defensive tackle motivated after losing sister to car accident
Friday, November 6, 2009
While facing a tough time at home with his family two weeks ago, UNLV senior defensive tackle Martin Tevaseu leaned on his responsibilities to his football family to remain balanced. Now, things are starting to get back to normal for the Rebels' 6-foot-2, 340-pound man in the middle. Preparing for the team's 34-17 victory at New Mexico back on Oct. 24 didn't go as originally planned.

Mondays with Mike: It's a familiar position for 3-6 Rebels
UNLV FOOTBALL: UNLV needs three wins in three games — just like in 2008 — starting with Colorado State
Tuesday, November 3, 2009
If you were to grade the UNLV football team on its showing last season in the schedule's final three games, a D+ would be pretty fair. Facing a situation where they needed three wins in three games to attain bowl eligibility, the Rebels ultimately blew their opportunity with a heartbreaking 42-28 loss at San Diego State in the finale. The only saving grace which awarded Mike Sanford's club a passing grade was the fact that it won the first two, getting as close as humanly possible to the program's first bowl appearance since 2000.

TCU linebacker Kris Gardner (33) reaches for the ball fumbled by UNLV wide receiver Ryan Wolfe, center, on a punt return as center Clint Gresham (54), left, wide receiver Jimmy Young (88), safety Malcolm Williams (15), defensive end Wayne Daniels (96), cornerback Jason Teague (27) and linebacker Tank Carder (43) converge on the play in the second half Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, in Fort Worth, Texas. TCU defeated UNLV 41-0.
UNLV offense and defense lag in 41-0 loss to TCU
Rebels must win final three games to be eligible for a bowl game
Saturday, October 31, 2009
In UNLV’s five previous losses this season, it was easy to place the bulk of the blame on either the offense or the defense. TCU’s crushing 41-0 victory against the Rebels was different. Both units turned in equally inept performances.

TCU quarterback Andy Dalton (14) fumbles the ball after being hit by UNLV cornerback Warren Zeigler (21) as UNLV cornerback Terrance Lee (23) and linebacker Beau Orth converge on the play in the first half Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Live game blog: UNLV shut out at TCU, 41-0
Horned Frogs took early lead, dropping Rebels to 3-6 on the season
Saturday, October 31, 2009
Add another disappointing chapter to the story of UNLV's 2009 football season. TCU had no trouble with the Rebels Saturday, controlling the entire game for a 41-0 victory in Fort Worth. Of course, no one expected UNLV (3-6) to knock off TCU, the nation's eighth-ranked team. But the Rebels really didn't even challenge the Horned Frogs. Despite a couple early turnovers, TCU took a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and never allowed UNLV to establish any rhythm offensively. The Rebels 110th-ranked defense turned in another sub-par outing as well.

11

Junior quarterback Andy Dalton (14) and senior defensive end Jerry Hughes (98), seen here celebrating after the TCU's 44-6 victory over Colorado State on Oct. 17, are two of the biggest reasons why the Horned Frogs are 35-point favorites heading into Saturday's game against UNLV.
Take Five: Getting to know TCU
UNLV FOOTBALL: To say facing the Horned Frogs — the class of the Mountain West in 2009 — will be a challenge for the Rebels would be a vast understatement
Saturday, October 31, 2009
By the time UNLV and TCU kick off this afternoon in Fort Worth, the Rebels will more than likely be sick and tired of having heard all week about how they have no shot. The oddsmakers have set UNLV as an underdog by 35 points. TCU's defense, which ranks fifth out of 120 FBS teams, is fresh off a 38-7 whipping of BYU in Provo last weekend. At the same time, the Rebels were taking care of New Mexico, 34-17.
