    Urijah Faber vacationed in Mexico and got up to nearly 160 pounds as he lounged during a designated downtime at the end of last year. The California Kid has barely spent a moment resting since then. Grueling training began almost as soon as the relaxing getaway ended when an injury to Dominick Cruz catapulted Faber into a short-notice title fight.

    Although the UFC is popularly referred to as going through a state of flux at the moment, seven straight title fights have ended with champions retaining their belts. Most expect that streak to extend to nine before Super Bowl Sunday. Featherweight champion Jose Aldo and bantamweight counterpart Renan Barao are pricey favorites to defend their thrones against Ricardo Lamas and Urijah Faber, respectively, Saturday at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

Ricco Rodriguez, Tito Ortiz and Matt Hughes were the promotion’s champions the last time it didn’t stage an event at MGM Grand Garden Arena or Mandalay Bay Events Center during the country’s biggest sports weekend. Brad Johnson, Dexter Jackson and Michael Pittman led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to victory over the Oakland Raiders in the Super Bowl that year.
