    Dana White shared what was said during the first staredown between Alistair Overeem and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. The UFC President had to jump in between the two hulking heavyweights at a press conference Thursday, but only after they exchanged some choice words. The two former Strikeforce standouts, who have been at odds since their fight was first announced, didn’t have a chance to make as much of a scene at the UFC 156 weigh-in Friday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.

As soon as Jon Jones labeled Rashad Evans as the fighter he would most like to rematch so he could “finish him this time” last week, the light heavyweight champion knew it would get back to Evans immediately. Evans had plenty of time to digest the remarks before arriving in town this week for his UFC 156 bout against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.

    In an effort to appeal to more sports fans than ever before, the UFC will start to release an official set of rankings next week. UFC President Dana White announced the plans at a press conference to promote UFC 156.

    The UFC finally put together a super fight. It might not be the one between the two best fighters in the world, Anderson Silva vs. Jon Jones, or the one that would sell the most pay-per-views, Anderson Silva vs. Georges St. Pierre, but the main event of Saturday’s UFC 156 fits the description. Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar, which headlines the annual Super Bowl weekend card at the Mandalay Bay Events Center this year, is the closest thing fans will get to champion vs. champion for now.

Several fighters who went on to reach the top of their divisions, including four champions, have debuted on the Super Bowl weekend preliminary card since the UFC first staged the event nine years ago.

    When Alistair Overeem decided to join the Blackzilians training camp earlier this year, the existing team members gave him a warm welcome with one notable exception. Fellow UFC heavyweight Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva responded by leaving the Boca Raton, Fla.-based fight team. He cited the possibility of fighting Overeem as a reason for not wanting to train in his company.
