Surrendering a double-digit second half lead against a mediocre opponent isn’t exactly how the San Diego State football team wanted to close the year. But the Aztecs limped into the offseason Saturday with a 28-24 loss to host UNLV at Sam Boyd Stadium, allowing the Rebels to close the game with 21 unanswered points in the game’s final 23 minutes.

This is how it works on NFL cut day — when teams are required to trim their rosters to 53 players — in San Diego. If a Chargers official pulls a player aside during their work out, he is no longer on the team.

Quarterback Kevin Prince got off to a successful start at UCLA despite some second-half difficulties in his debut. Those difficulties seemed to leave him excited rather than discouraged about his future. "It's great to start with a win," the redshirt freshman said after passing for 176 yards and a touchdown in the Bruins' 33-14 victory over San Diego State on Saturday. "There's a lot to correct, and that's exciting."
