Upset special: Legacy shocks Arbor View in rivalry game
Thursday, September 26, 2013
high school football:
The Legacy High football team on Thursday night pulled off the biggest upset of season. And, even though it’s still September, the Longhorns’ effort against No. 2 ranked Arbor View in the “Battle of the Bulls” game likely won’t be matched. Junior running back DeMichael Walker scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with 1:36 to play in third quarter and the Longhorns’ defense did the rest in a 7-0 victory.

high school football: Panthers erase early 10-0 deficit to the Longhorns behind Rost and Jake Ortale
Parker Rost carved up the Legacy defense like a Halloween pumpkin. No subsequent glow emanated from the team in burnt orange, however, to get them back in the game. Rost was too destructive in throwing for four touchdowns and running for two more to lead Palo Verde to a season-opening 47-32 victory.

Legacy's veteran offensive line, talented running back could be difference-makers
Friday, September 6, 2013
high school football:
It’s the same story each fall for some high school football teams across the nation. The key to excelling is getting the most out of first-time starters, a group of players regulated to the second-team or junior varsity in past seasons. At Legacy High in North Las Vegas this fall, that’s not the scenario. The Longhorns, which took third in 2012 in the Southwest League, returns one of the area’s most dynamic players in running back Casey Hughes and four of five starters on the offensive line.

high school football: These teams struggled in 2012 but could have a turnaround this fall
The Silverado High football program typically isn’t mentioned as one of the teams to beat in the Sunrise Region. That honor goes to three-time defending Sunrise champion Liberty, or Northeast League favorite Green Valley. But Silverado could have the players to make some noise this fall. When practices across Southern Nevada officially started this week, Silverado’s field was packed with some new faces, including a handful of linemen who could be difference-makers. Silverado isn’t the only underachieving team from last season capable of a turnaround in 2013.

Risk before halftime pays off for Palo Verde in playoff win, helps set up showdown with Gorman
Saturday, November 3, 2012
high schooll football:
Palo Verde High football coach Darwin Rost could have been conservative and attempted a field goal Friday at the end of the first half against visiting Legacy in the Sunset Regional quarterfinals. The Panthers were at the Legacy 3-yard line with about five seconds remaining before halftime, giving them enough time to run one play. A short field goal would have given them a three-point halftime lead, while going for a touchdown came with the risk of no points and allowing underdog Legacy to gain confidence it could pull off the upset. Rost’s gamble paid off. His son, junior quarterback ...
