Scoring on the Legacy defense is more difficult than it sounds. The Longhorns have held opponents scoreless in 11 of the last 12 quarters of play. They’re on a nine-quarter scoreless streak after shutting out old Northwest Division rival Cimarron-Memorial 31-0 in a Southwest league game.

Centennial coach Leon Evans has told his kids, like all coaches do, to take it one game at a time. Well, now that Centennial is past Cimarron-Memorial with a 34-14 victory Friday night the kids can focus on the opponent that’s been hard to ignore all season: Bishop Gorman.

high school football: The 5-foot-5 converted running back had more than 200 yards and two touchdowns to lead Cimarron to road win
Justin Davis was primarily a wide receiver for the Cimarron-Memorial High football team before coaches switched him to running back this summer. It looks like he’s fitting in just fine in the Spartans’ backfield. Davis rushed for 263 yards and two first-half touchdowns Friday night to lead the Spartans to an impressive 27-7 victory against host Del Sol.

The Duel in the Desert high school football trophy is staying at Cheyenne. Cheyenne’s Myloe Lewis had a rushing and receiving touchdown Friday, leading the Desert Shields to a 26-19 victory against host Cimarron-Memorial in the annual rivalry game. The two schools opened together in 1991 and have played every year for the trophy.

Henry Hoffend accounted for three touchdowns Friday for the Arbor View High football team in a 32-20 victory against host Cimarron-Memorial. The win gives the Aggies (7-1 overall, 6-1 Northwest) the No. 2 seed from the Northwest Division in the playoffs, which begin in three weeks.

Centennial won a key Northwest Division battle against Cimarron-Memorial Thursday night. The Bulldogs held on in the fourth quarter for a 23-21 victory over the Spartans. Cimarron scored a few times late to make it a close contest, but a 20-yard touchdown pass from Austin Turley to Trajan Pili provided enough insurance for Centennial.

One of the defining moments of Cimarron-Memorial’s season occurred in a 20-14 victory over Legacy on Saturday night. The Longhorns Steffan Webb broke loose for an 86-yard run early in the game, but the Spartans Marques Price refused to give up on the play. He caught up to Webb at the one-yard line and stripped the ball away for a turnover.
