The Bishop Gorman High football team hasn’t lost to a regular season league game since the 2006 season when it was defeated by Sierra Vista and Spring Valley. Thanks to realignment, the three-time defending state champions and nationally respected Gaels will face a new challenge this week at Centennial.

high school football: Coby Newton's touchdown run with 45 seconds remaining gives Bulldogs redemption victory against rivals
This time, it was the Centennial High football team’s turn to win a close game against rival Palo Verde. Finally. Coby Newton’s 3-yard touchdown run with 45.3 seconds remaining Friday lifted Centennial to an emotional 24-20 victory against Palo Verde in a rematch of last year’s Sunset Regional semifinals. As the final seconds ticked off the clock, the Centennial players celebrated as if they had just won the state championship. Some even had tears in their eyes.

The New Mexico football program has landed another prospect from Southern Nevada in a direct recruiting battle with hometown UNLV. Bishop Gorman High safety and linebacker Marc Phillipi verbally committed to New Mexico Friday, picking the Lobos and new coach Bob Davie over offers from UNLV and Navy. Gorman coach Tony Sanchez confirmed the news.
