high school football: Jacobi Owens leads the Bulldogs with 124 rushing yards
A game as evenly matched as a first-round playoff tilt between Desert Oasis and Centennial usually comes down to which team makes a fatal mistake that the other capitalizes on. It was the Diamondbacks who made the critical late-game error Friday night and the Bulldogs who took advantage of it. Desert Oasis muffed a punt with five minutes remaining at their 22-yard line that Centennial’s Andrew Romoff recovered.

Centennial won a key Northwest Division battle against Cimarron-Memorial Thursday night. The Bulldogs held on in the fourth quarter for a 23-21 victory over the Spartans. Cimarron scored a few times late to make it a close contest, but a 20-yard touchdown pass from Austin Turley to Trajan Pili provided enough insurance for Centennial.

high school football: Roderick Eason stars in important game for the Aggies
Arbor View deserved Friday night’s 20-13 victory over Northwest Division rival Centennial. Not just the Aggies football team, but the entire Arbor View High School community. It was an emotional week at Arbor View as everyone at the school tried to cope with the loss of 15-year old sophomore Alyssa Otremba, who was killed while walking home a week ago.

high school football: Victor's two second-half touchdowns overshadow 200-plus rushing yards from Centennial's Jacobi Owens
At times Friday night, it appeared running backs Farrell Victor of Las Vegas High and Jacobi Owens of Centennial were involved in a personal competition. Victor rushed for 199 yards and two touchdowns, scoring the game-winner on a 55-yard run with 4:34 to play to lead the Wildcats’ football team to a 24-21 victory against host Centennial. Victor’s efforts, however, were nearly overshadowed by Owens. He carried the ball 41 times for 237 yards and also had a 55-yard touchdown run.

Northwest Division Preview:
The pressure associated with the first year after taking over coaching duties at a new school didn’t apply to Centennial’s Leon Evans in 2010. In his first year at the helm, Evans led Centennial to the best season in recent memory at the school. The Bulldogs finished third in the Northwest division and got to the second round of the postseason after beating Desert Oasis.

Palo Verde High junior running back Jonathan Maxwell rushed for three touchdowns and senior running back Brandon Wright rushed for another as the Panthers defeated Centennial 30-0 Friday to advance to the Sunset Regional championship game.
