Playoff victory carries extra importance for Basic senior Sampson: Saturday, November 5, 2011; high school football:; By Ray Brewer; Basic High running back Lorenzo Sampson delivered a simple message Friday when addressing teammates following their 42-21 victory against host Canyon Springs in the Sunrise Regional quarterfinals. Sampson, the Wolves unquestioned team leader, didn’t hesitate telling teammates to seize the moment the rest of the postseason.

Basic finally beats Del Sol, earns playoff spot with last-minute win: Friday, October 28, 2011; high school football:; Edward Hauth, Las Vegas Sun; Basic High sophomore Antraye Johnson rushed for the game-winning touchdown from 1-yard out with 43 seconds remaining Thursday to give the Wolves a 29-25 victory over host Del Sol and a spot in next week's playoffs.

It’s rivalry week on the local high school gridiron, starting Thursday night when No. 3 Las Vegas High attempts to extend its winning streak against Rancho in the annual Bone Game to 16 straight seasons.

Basic takes down rival Boulder City: Saturday, October 15, 2011; high school football:; By Case Keefer; Senior quarterback Eddie Vega led Basic to a 20-7 win over rival Boulder City on Friday night. Vega threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another as the Wolves won the annual Jug Game without much of a problem. They never trailed and didn’t allow the Eagles to the score until the fourth quarter.

Liberty remains undefeated in league play with 56-21 win over Basic: Thursday, October 6, 2011; high school football:; Edward Hauth; Liberty High junior quarterback Kai Nacua passed for three touchdowns and ran for another as the Patriots remained undefeated in Southeast League play with a 56-21 victory over Basic on Thursday.

A week after getting torched on the ground in a loss to Green Valley, Basic allowed Coronado’s Nate Webb to break a 70-yard touchdown run on its first possession.

Aaron Love has game to remember in leading Green Valley to Henderson Bowl win: Saturday, September 17, 2011; high school football: Senior rushes for 270 yards and two touchdowns to help Green Valley snap three-game skid against Basic; By Ray Brewer; Green Valley High senior running back Aaron Love had been waiting to play in the Henderson Bowl rivalry football game against Basic since he was in the seventh grade. He made up for the lost time Friday — starting on the first play from scrimmage. Love’s 65-yard touchdown run seconds into Henderson Bowl XXI highlighted a 270 yard rushing performance and carried Green Valley to a 36-33 victory to snap a three-game wining streak in the series by Basic.

Henderson Bowl rivalry still gets both teams pumped: Thursday, September 15, 2011; HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Annual football game between Basic and Green Valley highs entering its 21st consecutive season; By Ray Brewer; Basic High School quarterback Eddie Vega walked out to the practice field Tuesday holding the Henderson Bowl trophy, placing it on a table near midfield on the Wolf Pack sideline so his teammates could be reminded this is no ordinary week of practice.

Before the Wolves began preparing for Friday’s matchup with Rancho, they learned 2009 team captain Kelly Armistead was severely injured and suffered major head injuries in a car accident last Saturday.

Cimarron-Memorial takes care of Basic, 21-14: Friday, August 26, 2011; high school football:; By Ray Brewer; Cimarron-Memorial at BasicCimarron-Memorial’s Demaryae Williams rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries Friday to lead the Spartans football team to a 21-14 opening-night victory against host Basic.

Basic hopes to return to the top of the Southeast standings: Thursday, August 25, 2011; high school football:; By Ray Brewer; The Basic High football team opened last season with three straight wins, beating respectable foes Durango and Canyon Springs in showing their run to the state semifinals in 2009 wasn’t a fluke. But the Wolves closed by losing four of their final six games to finish with a 5-5 record and miss the playoffs.

Basic's Henderson Bowl win not enough to extend season: Friday, October 29, 2010; By Ray Brewer; The Basic High football team beat its biggest rival Thursday in the last game of the season. The Wolves received a trophy for the victory, with their players racing around the stadium in joy to celebrate the win. They even stayed on the field afterward taking pictures. Yet, there were plenty of tears of disappointment. Basic’s season, you see, also ended Thursday.
