Five months ago, Bishop Gorman High rising junior tight end Alize Jones was a relative unknown. Things started to change last December when he burst onto the scene in the state championship game, scoring on touchdown passes of 78 and 10 yards to help Gorman when its fourth straight title. At 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, and possessing 4.7-second speed in the 40-yard dash, college recruiters quickly took notice. First, Jones received a scholarship offer from UCLA. Then, Baylor and Vanderbilt followed.

The Centennial High football program’s debut on the national stage won’t be easy. The Bulldogs will play JSerra Catholic of Southern California on Aug. 31 in the Under Armour Brothers in Arms Classic.

NFL draft: UNLV's Lotulelei not selected, meaning the Rebels haven't had a player picked in three straight drafts
Valley High School graduate Kerwynn Williams waited longer than expected Saturday to be selected in the NFL Draft. Williams, a 5-foot-8, 190-pound running back and kick returner, was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the seventh round with the No. 230 overall selection.

The University of Oregon’s football team could have two from the Las Vegas area playing on its offensive line in the upcoming years. Green Valley High's Tyrell Crosby, a 6-foot-4, 295-pound offensive tackle, verbally committed to Oregon Monday following an unofficial visit. Crosby confirmed the commitment on his Twitter account.

high school recruiting: Teammate Nate Starks, one of the nation's top running backs, offered scholarship on the same day by the defending national champions
Nick Gates always imagined playing college baseball. A pitcher and first baseman at Bishop Gorman High, Gates didn’t join the football team until his freshman year when coaches recruited him out of a physical education class. Now, the 6-foot-5, 295-pound offensive tackle is one of the nation’s best linemen for the class of 2014. This week, he received a scholarship offer from defending national champion Alabama, giving him nine scholarship offers and more validation that his college future is undoubtedly on the gridiron.

It’s Monday night under the lights on the Foothill High football field, and Falcons senior quarterback Drew Doxtator is putting on a clinic. It’s 10 minutes before Tyrell Crosby’s sixth-period weight training class at Green Valley High School and college football coaches are already starting to gather for a glimpse of the 6-foot-6, 295-pound offensive tackle. Recruiting website rivals.com classifies him as one of the hottest prospects in the region for the class of 2014, and the interest from coaches more than supports the claim. He’s already received scholarship offers from Oregon, Utah, San Diego State and UNLV, and more offers surely will follow.
