Former pound-for-pound king proves he’s back despite lengthy layoff

Juan Manuel Marquez fought back after being knocked down in the second round but in the end it was the same as always. Behind his world famous defense and lightning quick jab, Mayweather dominated the five-time world champion in a unanimous decision victory. Mayweather's unique defensive style created problems for Marquez while his jab proved to be more than enough offense to win rounds, beating Marquez on all three judges's scorecards by scores of 118-109, 120-107 and 119-108.   Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s $10 million purse just got smaller for his return to boxing Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Mayweather Jr. came in two pounds over the agreed-upon 144 pounds for his welterweight bout with Juan Manuel Marquez and will face a fee of an undisclosed amount.
